The Ottawa Valley Hereford Club was organized in 1953 to serve the Hereford Breeders in the Counties of Lennox and Addington, Frontenac, Leeds, Grenville, Stormont, Glengarry, Dundas, Prescott, Russell, Carleton, Lanark, Renfrew and the distinct of Nipissing in Ontario.  Our Junior Club was organized in 1978.

Our members compete in cattle shows at agricultural fairs to score points which are compiled in a competition for several Ottawa Valley Hereford Club trophies. The awards are presented during the Annual Meeting at the end of each year.

The OVHC tries to participate as a group in one or two sales of registered Hereford cattle each year, generally a club organized sale in the early spring, and the Hobbs Brothers Invitational Sale in Ashton in the fall. Many of our members participate in other sales throughout the year as well.

In the cattle show and sale rings, our members are staunch competitors, but outside the ring, they are the best of friends. Several well attended social events are on our annual calendar, including an annual picnic (now known as the Twilight Meeting), the Annual Dinner Meeting held at the end of the year, and sometimes a dance or other event.

To be a member of the OVHC, a person must be the owner of one or more purebred Hereford animals registered with the Canadian Hereford Association in Calgary, Alberta, and must reside within the Counties that define the Ottawa Valley Hereford Club Zone.  Hereford breeders outside our zone from Eastern Ontario and Western Quebec are always welcome to participate in club events, including the Annual Meeting, and to compete in our shows.

The aims and objectives of the Ottawa Valley Hereford Club are:

To assist the Ontario Hereford Association and the Canadian Hereford Association in the promotion of the Hereford breed of beef cattle and to focus attention on the accomplishments of this breed.

To organize and co-ordinate consignment sales to satisfy the needs of the membership.

To develop comradeship among Hereford Enthusiasts.
